VA Police Service 

VA Police are federal law enforcement officers employed directly by VA. You can find them stationed at VA Medical Centers (VAMCs), Community-Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs), and other facilities nationwide, as well as Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) and National Cemetery Administration (NCA) offices.  

The mission to protect Veterans, patients, employees, contractors, volunteers, and visitors who come through VA doors translates into a wide range of duties: 

• Patrol and physical security: monitoring buildings, grounds, and parking areas, and responding to calls for service. 
• Law enforcement: enforcing federal, state, and local laws that apply on government property. 
• Crisis response: VA police officers are trained to de-escalate situations involving patients in crisis. 
• Investigations: looking into incidents on VA property, often coordinating with the VA Office of Inspector General on more serious cases. 
• Community and customer service: Officers regularly interact with anxious or vulnerable patients and families, which calls for a different touch than traditional street patrol.
