2025 brought big changes to the federal resume, which we outlined in the blog, “What to know about federal resume requirements.” The biggest change of note—beginning September 27, 2025, all federal agencies, including VA, will only accept resumes up to two pages in length. This year, we shared key information “Demystifying Veterans’ Preference in federal hiring.” Veterans’ Preference is a policy that prioritizes eligible Veterans during the hiring process for federal jobs, allowing VA and other federal agencies to benefit from the unique skills Veterans gained in the
Service. If you’re a Veteran looking to build a rewarding career, consider continuing your service at VA.
1. How the new Merit Hiring Plan will impact candidates
And finally, our most-viewed blog of 2015—”How the new Merit Hiring Plan will impact candidates.” The Merit Hiring Plan aims to address inefficiencies in the federal hiring process and prioritize merit-based recruitment. This means you saw, and will continue to see, changes like:
- Asking candidates to address their merit, competence, and commitment to the U.S. Constitution in free-response questions as part of the job application process.
- Eliminating unnecessary education requirements in favor of skills-based technical and alternative assessments.
